Utah resident Judd Bagley denies that he had any role in publishing allegedly defamatory material posted on-line about Vancouver promoter Altaf Nazerali. The material, which accused Mr. Nazerali of being an arms dealer and a terrorist, among other things, was the work of others, Mr. Bagley says. Even if Mr. Nazerali did suffer any damage, he already had a "generally bad reputation," Mr. Bagley claims.

Mr. Bagley is responding to a defamation suit that Mr. Nazerali launched against him in the Supreme Court of British Columbia on Sept. 30, 2013. According to the suit, Mr. Bagley helped publish a series of defamatory "chapters" that appeared on the website deepcapture.com in 2011. The chapters accused Mr. Nazerali of associating with organized crime figures, market manipulators and terrorists, the suit complained.

In his response, Mr. Bagley simply denies that he had any role in publishing the material. He says he did not assist in any way, however minor or inconsequential, in the publication of the allegedly defamatory material. Moreover, Mr. Nazerali's reputation was already tarnished by associations with "fraudulent ventures and stock swindlers," Mr. Bagley claims.
