Simple answer.... look up specific gravity :). The mystery will be unraweled before your very own eyes. Hint, for a material with specific gravity of 1 you get a mass to volume of 1000 kg=1 cubic meter . Good luck with the math, if you have trouble ask a kid in fourth grade they give you a hand.
Watch out for the definition of ton, in coal a short ton is usually used as in 1 ton=2000 pounds
the metric tonne or 1,000 kilograms is 2,204.68 pounds.
