What’s clear is that investors in graphite companies will see success in the long-term because graphite mines are going to have to be built in the West to meet the needs of battery manufacturers. Let’s remember that graphite is the largest component of the Lithium-Ion batteries used to power electric vehicles, and this news puts immediate pressure on the world’s automakers and producers of EV batteries – located mostly in the United States, Japan, India and South Korea - to look for alternate sources of supply. That will put producers like Northern Graphite, the only producer of natural graphite in North America, into the spotlight as one of the few suppliers outside of China.
