It hasn’t been long since that eureka moment, but stellar success is already within reach for the winner in this category. The award will go to a start-up company less than four years old producing the most commercially viable, innovative and effective new ingredient – and one that could make a real difference to the overall health and nutrition industry.

ELIGIBILITY:
In order to be considered for the Startup Ingredient of the Year Award, the ingredient must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Recent Startup – Submission must come from a company, or any new business entity incorporated no more than 4 years old (company founded after the 1st January, 2011)
- Scientific Merit – Does the submission reflect sound science and research conducted under appropriate conditions and on appropriate models? Does the product introduce novel art to ingredient science?
- Efficacy – Does the submission confirm that the ingredient has a demonstrable impact that allows a health-related benefit?
- Safety – Has the submission clearly established safety when used or applied, in an appropriate population?
- True Innovation – Has the submission shown a unique approach, concept or benefit above and beyond leveraging prior art or general knowledge in the field? Is the ingredient truly new and different, and not simply repurposing or reorienting existing knowledge?
- Market Potential – Is the concept likely to be commercially successful? Is the target category / application well-defined and of interest in the current (or future) marketplace?
- Product formulation – has the ingredient been used in a product, if so which product. If not, what type of products could it be used in?
- Ability to Increase Market Credibility – Does the submission support a concept that has the potential to make a difference to overall industry and/or marketing credibility?
- The ingredient must have been commercially introduced after 1st January, 2014.
JUDGING PROCESS:
- Once all entries have been received they will be reviewed by the NutraIngredients Awards Judging Panel made up of independent judges from the industry.
- The three finalists will be confirmed and notified in March, 2016.
- The three finalists will be invited to give a 10 minute presentation on their entry for the final stage of judging on the morning of the awards dinner, Wednesday 11th May 2016 at the Starling Hotel in Geneva, Switzerland.
- The winner will be announced later on that evening at the awards dinner.
