Curc out
Hey “broke”/Curc,
In my post to Eva123
I did say I would post about my
chance opportunity to sample some of the Natera Plant Based Foods.
I started using ProCurc back in May for the arthritis in my knees……. I continue to use ProCurc but in early November I ran out; so decided to drive out to Pitt Meadows and pick some up.
I arrived around lunch time and got called over to the “test kitchen” entrance – for those who haven’t been in the facility in Pitt Meadows – no, it’s not a glorified lunch room – it is a proper test kitchen. Rick Lum, Director of Sales, was cooking up samples for distributor reps that were at the facility and I was told to grab a place at the counter.
I was not sure what to expect as the only plant based meat replacement I have ever had was half a shared Beyond Meat burger at A&W over a year ago. So I really don’t have any plant based food experience to compare to.
There were burgers, nuggets, sweet chili tenders and schnitzels; there were no kiev’s
:<( I was served a patty with melted cheese on it, so didn’t taste just the patty on its own; went ahead and assembled a burger with condiments, lettuce & tomato… no bacon available. It was a
decent burger but would have been better with bacon
;<) One of the ladies in the room who said she was a vegan was eating just the patty and stated it was better than the Beyond Burgers that she had at home.
There were plates with the nuggets & chili tenders on the counter in front of me. I tried each one without any condiments/dipping sauces, etc. and had I not known they were plant based ahead of time, I don’t think I would have known they were not chicken.
The chili tenders had a bite to them, probably on the spicy side of medium for most people based on comments in the room
:<) Years ago I lived in downtown Vancouver and was a regular visitor to the
Schnitzel House Restaurant on Robson Street. The 1/2 schnitzel I had was fine but for me pretty hard to compare a schnitzel tasted in a test kitchen with ones that live in my memory associated with good times spent dining out with friends. The other people in the kitchen thought they were great
:<) The bottom line for me: Would I buy these products to replace or at least partially replace the meat based products I currently use – the answer is a definite yes. I had one burger, ½ a schnitzel and several nuggets & chili tenders – a lot more than just a taste and didn't eat again until much later that night.

If you aren’t already aware, one of the names these products are being marketed under in Australia is the trade name
PlanteinTM which was launched in May, 2020. Andrew, a vegan food photographer and blogger,
The Ravenous Vegan has done a
Plantein Kiev Review and a
Vegan Burger Comparison which are much better reads than this post

Since they are now available on line at
https://naterafoods.com/collections/all I suggest you order one package of each type and give them a try.
