Can't believe that I'm doing this.....
Firstly, thank you for the kind words, to those who have spoken them. I'm just a regular schmuck who tries to surround myself with smart people. And in doing so, have developed lasting friendships. I encourage everyone to try to connect with fellow investors in your area, share info and expertise, and hopefully share in your successes.
That said, I was a shareholder over a decade ago (2007) in Nuance Communications that took over Geruson's Voice Signal Technologies - that was the first time that I heard his name.
Meanwhile, this should serve as a sign, perhaps...I tried to get in, this evening, to an online Canaccord-Genuity event on what Canadian fund managers were doing with their money in preparation to the US market volatility this election season. I actually couldn't get in - it was full. Never, in my life, have I experienced that - and on an NFL night, no less. I suppose many people are like me, walking on egg shells - that sometimes feels like broken glass.
I like my portfolio, but I will not hestitate to dump just as I did back in February. if the signs are as clear as they were then of a market smackdown.
Somewhat overweight in the precious metals, which is a highly reactive market, based on currency devaluation and a desire to be ahead of the herd if and when they move en masse into this rather tiny sector.
And a fat position in NXO, but not so much that I'm uncomfortably overweight in it. We have seen what can happen in the tech sector when the herd moves together. When some forecast share prices at enormous levels, I do not disagree with them, having watched the moves in Amazon, Tesla, Apple et al....and during the late 90's tech bubble.
I will say this, there are a lot of people down here that are getting mighty nervous about this election season. Lots of older folks here, retirees like myself, that feel extremely vulnerable. And to anyone who has studied history, as I have, it is downright terrifying what can happen when people move, unchecked and irrationally, in the same direction.
I have friends who have increased the value of their home contents insurance and are stocking up their sail boats with canned food and preparing to put out to sea for a while until things simmer down - swing down to the Caribbean, dodge a storm or three, and seek safe harbor while America gets itself sorted out - if circumstances necessitate. Not gonna lie, I'm considering joining them. Strength in numbers, as they say. Down here, your routes out of Dodge are very limited unless you have an aircraft or a boat.
We live in interesting and scary times.
Be well all, and stay well.
