Botswana and De Beers
Botswana is Africa's largest Diamond producer and they have recently announced in negotiations with De Beers that Botswana is wanting, " a bigger share of our diamonds (produced)," said the president of Botswana Mokgweetsi Masisi.
Currently Botswana recieves 25 percent of the Diamonds from the joint venture project Debswana Diamond Company and De Beers gets the rest, but the president has said if current negotiations "don't reach a win-win situation, each side will have to pack up and go home."
Sales of Diamonds from the project in Africa reached $4.588 Billion dollars total in 2022.
One can see the enourmous economic benefit of a Diamond Mine.
However we can learn something here and that is to be fair and also make sure both parties win-win.
In the case of Olivut it will be with Indigenous groups as the partner. And it will be Olivut's job to really outline the benefits of a Diamond Project and to ensure a true partnership is formed. As the economics of a Diamond mine are generation changing.
As well it will be curious if due to the current global poltical situation, if Canada gets a spotlight as an excellent place to search for Diamonds. With a low cost to potential reward situation.
And Olivut must be considered one of the top exploration land packages for Diamonds in Canada.
