RE: RE: Magnitude of finds jameelqns - good post and information.
Don't forget Repsol also has drilled a well in the Guyana / Suriname basin called "Tapir West" - which was operated by Noble. It seems encouraging that Repsol, even after participating in an unsucessful well in the Guyana / Suriname basin, is going back for another attempt.
Surely, Repsol was able to incorporate the "Tapir West" results into their geological models - which probably led them to de-risk (or upgrade) the Jaguar prospect.
See statements made by Repsol dated Feb-14-2011 - which indicates why they believe they failed at Tapir-West (Suriname).
Question: Can you tell us specifically about the Jaguar prospect and whether it is a single objective or multiple play objectives and when do you think might reach the target depth and what the pre-drill mean reserve estimate will be?
The Jaguar well’s key objective is 5300 or 5500 – I can’t remember exactly which – it is a deep well and it is deep on purpose. We think we understand why we failed in Surinam. We think we failed because there was a multi migration barrier on top of the cretaceous section, because we encountered a large high pressure chamber we can map a regional so that may be a reason for failure. We are targeting an objective that is below this. We are targeting a single objective but it is a fan system that carves into the source. The main reasoning behind the prospect is that this reservoir was then ready to capture any early hydrocarbons being generated, so there is a positive point of view for the preservation in spite of all the rest.
