It was based on evidence available at that time and public statements made by the CEO, quoted within the article. It included risks as well as observations regarding the potential markets. There was no way of knowing that the former CEO would fail to follow through on Nasdaq listing, (I'm sure the London CIC attendees are not happy with that), and that the new CEO would take a completely different path. That's life.
But hindsight is 20/20 and in that regard, your vision is perfect. It is much more risky to try to anticipate what will happen than what has happened, so I will say tha WHEN the VCSEL transceiver is announced, the conversation will have to change. For now though, doubt has earned it's place in people's minds. So it goes.
