Retail suffering in Canada

I believe is going to go through a rough patch over the next several quarters. Retail is absolutely abysmal across the board and patience will be required for some better days.

Canada is in a recession right now.

Please back up this statement with some facts. Below is a link to Statscan showing Sept retail data was up.Also the second link will show that last quarter had a slight deline in GDP. The first since 2021. A recession is 2 quarters decline in a row I believe. Lets stick to facts here unless you are Short the stock. https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/daily-quotidien/231124/dq231124a-eng.htm https:/ ...more

Savyinvestor, how is SupremeX doing for you? Looks like you got a little too excited and purchased a little early. Maybe you purchased the shares I sold to you.  Which part of the Canadian economy do you want me to address? The fact that Canadian clothing retailers in Canada have declined in nominal terms since the start of the year. What, did you think I wasn't prepared for this? What ...more

Torontojay maybe Check my last post on the AEP  board regarding SXP I did sell for a loss back in the summer at well higher than the current price and just rebought a good position on Thursday. That is also posted on the SXP board. Divident is payed out this week. I usually post my new buys. No worries for me still way more capital Gains this year than losses. Trudeau loves me. I ...more

I like it how you cherry pick the data. How about this for cherry picking. Reitmans "A" reached $4.75 in early February and now is under $3.  Keep up the good work Savy.  Btw, I own shares in Reitmans but I refuse to ignore the fact that the economy is struggling under Justin Flation.
Comment by savyinvestor333 on Dec 04, 2023 10:18am
NP just cherrypicking like you cherrypicking a loser in my Portfolio. LOl Please post your 10 year returns in your Profile Pic or would you rather not. I would think you may have a stock or two that is below your purchase price also. Please explain why the Americans see a bright future currently for Mall Based Clothing retailers? I do believe that is what Reitmans does.

Funny you didn't need to go back that far in my post history. Why not bring up my Post from Oct 19 on the CTS board stating I was back in. The stock traded that day from a low of $2.24 to $a high of 2.36  currently trading at $4.05 a gain of over 70 % in a little over a month.I think that more than covered my loss on SXP lol

Savyinvestor, how is SupremeX doing for you? Looks like you got a little too excited and purchased a little early. Maybe you purchased the shares I sold to you.  This insult didn't age very well. Up 30% since the end of November

I posted on the SupremeX board too.  "with a small position. been watching for awhile. GLTA" You posted this on February 24,2023 when SupremeX closed the day at $6.50. Today, shares could be purchased for  ~ $4.44 which is a 32% drawdown from your original purchase price. You sold at a loss for tax purposes and established a new position thereafter. Don't tell me you ...more

I would be willing to compare annual returns anytime your willing as I am 100% more transparent than you. Ya savey I agree, your right and this just keeps building wealth but never shows up on SP, Kent right they good at ops but not so much with the financial market side. They gone thru proceedings and everything they do is opposite to what they done in past. Savy, you have to be living under a rock to think that Canada is not currently in a recession. I could debate with you all day on this topic but I believe I'd be wasting my time convincing you that it is. Talk to business owners and let them tell you.  Canada's recession will continue in 2024 and people arriving in this country will find no opportunities for employment. Blame the ...more

Whether we are in one now or get one, any recession will be short and mild. Those mostly affected are the ones who bought too much house during covid and are a paycheck away from missing a payment. Lucky for them (and overall markets), the Liberal government has mandated the banks to work with them to avoid default by extending mortgage amortizations. Wage and job growth continues to stay elevated ...more

Federal government can say all they want but policy wise what teeth does it have to ensure that amoritizations are extended?  Banks have all sorts of administrative tricks if they prefer a different option.

Lack of skilled professionals with SPECIFIC sought after skills. Lack of housing people desire.  Houses with the white picket fence and NOT apartment buildings.  Lack of health care services.  Hallway medicine folks and where we had to shut down our entire economy because the system could not handle it.
