Very good point regarding gold and tips.

Gold can do even better when short term rates come down and the Fed is no longer in restrictive monetary policy.

If investors don't believe inflation is under control then money will flow to gold. At the start of a recession gold likes to peak and it can remain that way until the inflation battle is won.
