Was Not The Sherway To Go
This is a sad day for RYU. Toronto is a major market and Sherway Gardens is an upscale mall that should have appealed to RYU’s demographics. They certainly are not the only retail outlet to close in a mall but it’s embarrassing nonetheless to open and close so quickly (see Target Canada). The positive is it helps control costs, but I think to open and close so quickly, the negative outweighs the positive on this one. On another note, I’m not a fan of the abbreviation “RYU”. I do however love the name “Respect Your Universe”. Not sure RYU will catch on, whereas Respect Your Universe let’s you play on the word “Respect” and it even appeals to today’s immediate concern, the environment amongst many other important topics. Just think you can do so much more with the name spelled out. But whatever the name being used is, it’s 2020 and the 2020 line has not come out yet, a store is now closed and two California stores where RYU is more successful are not opening anymore (Melrose and San Diego). So much of RYU’s mantra was to have that community feel, host events and really be entrenched with the local community that it will be hard to do that with mostly an online presence. I know bricks and mortar locations are becoming more and more pass, but walk by a Lululemon, they always show that there still is a place for the world before digital.

I respect your opinion, but I always thought "Respect Your Universe" sounded hokey - kinda like a bad Engrish phrase on a $2 T-shirt. I think rebranding to RYU is a much better idea. Hey, it worked for Kentucky Fried Chicken...
