RE:RE:RE:RE:PSVR Demos

RE:RE:RE:RE:PSVR Demos
Well I experienced the Sony VR and I'm not particularly impressed.  Around ten people were waiting when I arrived to try the system for about six or seven mintutes each.  The headset was excellent and the system worked OK but the game I tried, Valkyre something or other was a bore.  It was supposed to be "hard core VR" with a hand controller.

Yes you could look around but the "target" where you were supposedly looking and ainming was never where you were actually looking.  The handset vibrated when you tried to accelerate (although I saw or sensed no forward acceleration).  The setup seemed simple with a PS4 with a small camera on top connected to the headset.  I use glasses for reading, but it was better when I took them off.

Most of those in line were men in their twenties and seemed to be serious  gamers.  No one seemed to be amazed by the experience or seemed startled or reacted bodily while playing the games.  Neither I nor anyone else became car-sick or disoriented.

The cables were nicely laid out on the floor and looked much as they do i the photos we've seen but there is not much more to tell about them.  When wearing the headset they were not noticeable and so weight was not an issue.  Players sat in a chair six or seven feet from the set and a TV displayed what they were seeing for others to see.  I asked the Sony rep who made the cables and if they would offer  replacements if they failed.  He phoned a supervisor and came back to say that Sony made everything - of course that doesn't mean anything.  They didn't know how replacemens would be handled.  The cost seemed high, around C$700 for the headset bundle and C$500 for the Playstation with one game.

Oh yeah, everyone was given a Sony PSVR pen, a pin, a sticker and a Sony lanyard with a clip which I gave to some behind me who seemed happy to get a second one.

I think developers will need to come up with other uses than gaming as it just isn't exciting enough, at least not for me and seeminlgy not so much for most others either.  One middle-aged man got back in line for another hour's wait to try a different game.

I was ready to grab the cable and run but I didn't want to disappoint the half dozen people still waiting in line when I was done.
