Active Copper Cables by Someone Else
So, I re-read the announcement regarding the "Major Ethernet Switch" company that has decided to make their own branded product with Spectra7 chips embedded.
The first time I read it, I took it that the switch maker was going to simply bundle Spectra7 cables into their switches and sell them as a complete unit, but upon reading it again, now I am seeing it differently.
It appears that this "Major Ethernet Switch Company" whoever it is, wants to get into the Active Copper Cable business and sell those cables themselves to Data Center Operators. These cables will, of course, actually be using Spectra7 technology.
This is good for two reasons:
1) It shows that apparently no one else can currently do what Spectra7 does, otherwise the "Major Ethernet Switch Company" could simply design their own
and
2) Apparently being in the Active Copper Cable business is quite desirable right now, otherwise, why would a "Major Ethernet Switch Company" want to start making and selling their own (with S7 chips inside)?
I don't know... you guys tell me... Is this going to be simply switches bundled with Spectra7 cables, or are we going to start seeing "Active Copper Cables" being sold under different brands, all using Spectra7 chips inside?
