BPEM Vindicated

BPEM Vindicated

One issue that SGG was oddly silent about in their recent Sept 25 NR was the relationship of this year's drilling to last year's BPEM analysis.

Remember that when they reported the 2011 drilling results on Jan 20, 2012, they discussed how they had just begun to use a new exploration technique, a Borehole Pulse Electro-Magnetic survey ("BPEM") in hole SK11-20, which they used to target the direction of nearby hole SK11-21. That 2nd hole hit an intersection of 41 meters of 1.66 g/t. Then they inserted the BPEM probe down the new hole SK11-21, to get further readings.

In view of their late start in 2011, they only did BPEM surveys on 4 holes: SK11-19, SK11-20, SK11-21 (all close together), and on a deep prior hole, SB07-02. The BPEM analysis is reputed to be very accurate, giving you both the direction and the distance to nearby conductive zones, but (and here's the rub) the probe is small (it has to fit down a borehole, remember) with the result that the technology has a rather short range, and only gives accurate readings of geological features that are fairly close. They didn't have much BPEM data available when choosing the 2012 drill targets, with the result that almost all of the 2012 drill targets were selected using the next best thing, ie, the data from the two aerial flyovers (in 2006 and 2011).

Yet there was one exception -- take a close look at the map that SGG has published of the 2012 drill holes (here: https://www.skylinegold.com/i/maps/120917-map2.pdf ) and it's clear that this year's hole SG12-29 was very close to last year's holes SK11-20 and SK11-21, where they did the two BPEM surveys. Clearly, they must have used last year's BPEM data to chose the location and direction of hole SG12-29. And guess what? Hole SG12-29 was their best result this summer, the only one that found a high-grade intercept (56 g/t over 1.38 m).

I'll bet that we'll be hearing a lot more about BPEM analysis as SGG plans its 2013 drill campaign, since this year, they did it on most of the holes that they drilled, plus several historical holes.
