MAKE NOTE Despite having both a wet and dry season, El Salvador enjoys relatively warm temperatures throughout the year without the incredible heat that other Central American countries face. The climate of this subtropical country is very dependent on altitude. El Salvador’s coastal areas experience hot temperatures all year while the central plateau faces hot and cold extremes but rarely drops below 10C (50F). Finally, the country’s upland areas have a cooler temperature as a result of the higher altitude.
El Salvador’s dry season, or summer, is from November to April. The country’s rainy season, winter, runs from May to October. During the rainy season, the coast and central parts of the country tend to experience afternoon storms in between pleasant weather. These heavy rains are known locally as temporales. The hottest months of the year in El Salvador are usually March and April.
