RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:CNN badgers Trump on HCQMacer, I know you are correct under normal times. We need something in place by end of May to 'open back up'. I'm hoping for Engineered Monoclonal Antibodies, then a vaccine. Hopefully we can roll out the Antibody therapy soon, IF not we need to consider HCQ, at least for certain people. 12-18 months from now you might be doing surgery with rocks, if we don't get the economy going.

Thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of people have been using hydroxychloroquine daily for 50 years for lupus and rheumatoid arthritis and they are not dying from it. There are some side effects from prolonged use of which the most serious appears to be an effect on a person's vision.
The suggested dosage for covid supposedly is a start of 4g on day one and then 2g for the next 4 days - a 5 day regimen if I have my numbers right. That does not come close to what has been going on for 50 years. If a person's doctor is prescribing it I would hope they know the patient's background and susceptibility to possible side effects. It has shown many, many instances of being effective. In this situation how high do you want the numbers to run before you say well maybe it is worth a try. Don't let your hatred for one man blind you from the distress of thousands. Hate is a terrible emotion -- no logic behind it at all - just emotion.
Yep, I despise Trump no doubt. He is a doneky. But I will say the same for President, they should not make medical recommendations.....ever! It causes the uneducated masses to form opinions about something they know nothing about. The French study was of poor quality, they did not follow up on a large percentage of the patients in the trial so the reesults are not accurate. There really is only anecdotal experience indicating a positive effect. Knowing thism I would only use it in select patients witht he right benefit to risk ratio. Doctors are trained to make these decisions, not Presidents.
My point is, that even if it is proven effective HCQ will not end the dilema that we are in. This is too widespread. The system is too overwhelmed already in certain areas. It is also the reason why the French didn't follow up on all of the patients, they are overwhelmed. This is going to run it's course over thenext 12-18 months. I would love to be wrong on this, but we shall see.
