100% correct. I suspect it's more that the stock is being forced (shorted) down by the greedy vultures wanting/expecting to get a boatload of free warrants after they use the (brand new) shares bought in a PP to (eventually) cover their arses.
Frankly, that tactic works many more times than not... however, I do recall some discussions with a few really sharp mining company managers that were wise that tactic that dealt with it and made it backfire on the perpetrators. When foiled, it was like throwing a match onto rocket fuel that had gasoline poured over it... lol. Stock exploded upward, making it very hard to catch the tail. Impossible to trade, as it kept getting ripped out of your hand.
