RE: backlog is great news

RE: backlog is great news
Although I have no way of knowing for sure, I would guess that the incorrect reporting of backlog in Dec. 2007 was related to the Med-Eng acquisition.  Given that the acquisition happened so close to the end of the fiscal quarter/year (Sept. 30/07), it must have been a "mad dash" for the accountants to try to consolidate and close the books.

Therefore, caution was required when adding up the backlog numbers.  Much better to under-promise and over-deliver with regards to the forecast rather than have a negative backlog adjustment today.  Could you imagine the carnage that would befall VRS with a negative backlog announcement in today's market environment?  Perish the thought!

I would much rather have a management team that is conservative and prepared to be very cautious when speaking with the investment community, rather than one that is over aggressive and fail to deliver on promises.

One final note... Many thanks to "tennessee jed" for finally presenting this BullBoard with some logical and sound concerns that should be on the mind of all VRS investors.  As someone who works in the defence industry (NO, I am not a VRS insider!), I have learned from experience that geo-politics is the big wild card for any military supplier.   I share in some of the same concerns that "tennessee jed" has... especially his comment regarding a market over-reaction to a Democratic presidential win.   But in the end, given the current world in which we live, I think it is safe to say that products like those offered by VRS will continue to be in demand (regardless of who is President) for a long time to come.  I welcome other thoughts/opinions on this subject.
