To be honest basically they are for every meal. Let's break this one down.
They signed an MOU. A not legally binding document. What's the point of announcing that? What's the barrier to just doing a contract? They need news out fast? That's the only one I can come up with.
Why do they need a intermediary? Anyone of scale just hires a foundry. They don't need a CMC to sit in between. As an aside look at CMC's business. 90% of their revenue is from donations. They aren't in this business in any real way in terms of revenue. So what's the deal?
CMC package production. They put multiple chips into single runs to allow low volume fabs to get chips made. This allows companies that want to get a new design built for testing and validation. Clearly Yfi is doing what they can to get whatever it is they have produced.
So what's the skinny. Yfi signed an MOU with CMC last Fall. Now they have signed another MOU. Frankly, and it pains me to say this, ..............yawn. They have a handshake agreement. To maybe include Yfi in a production run. As usual it's just so underwhelming.
I'm also gonna have to also add a nit. The coffee hasn't kicked in and I'm cranky. Buddy over at CMC sees this as a big "strategic" win for Canada. Puffery like this is so aggravating. First, the tech is 20 years old and was built in the US of A. Second, wifi is strategic? LOL. Third the company is once again dead broke and hasn't got the money to build anything. Clearly they are pulling this one out to add to the effort to get some sort of PP out the door.
No doubt the usual suspects will do their best to build this into the latest sign Yfi will soon be the world leader in wifi. And no doubt (for me) this will be the latest bit of news that will slowly die on the vine.
