Nickel Soars .... Vale Crashes .... WHY ????

I'm having a hard time understand what is happeing in the markets. Today Nickel went up so fast and high that the LME had to shut down it's trade temporarily. I gleefully go to look at my Vale shares and they are down 4%. Why , I ask,,, WHY ???
