5i's Q & A

Q: With a loss of more than 95%, sell or hold has no consequences. At the price of 0.68 is their any hope for this company. 5I RESEARCH ANSWER: There is always 'some' potential, and a beaten-up company could always be a takeover target. But we have thrown in the towel on this one, and moved on to more consistent growth companies with better consistency. Its small size and horrible execution make it a tough one to look at for any buyers.

5i is clearly done with xebec lol

Let analysts think what they want, what I focus on is:   - the sp is undervalued compared to the book value.....it can therefore easily be improved - legacy issues are resolved - Xebec will benefit from Summit revenues more and more as we approach the end of the year and the beginning of 2023 - management have clearly said that they will increase their prices and make sure to ...more

Really have no idea how they can refer to "execution" when management has been in place for 4 month and in that short time have made all the right moves. Once again, analysts are looking in the rear view mirror. Lucky for us the market looks ahead. I'm not worried about Xebec in the slightest. I'm actually quite excited about this stock. More so today than I've been in some ...more

It often pays to be a contrarian, buy when there's blood on the streets. The market has clearly turned and a rising tide lifts all boats. This small microcap will rise high and fast since yesterday was only the first day of its ascent. Just look at any of the worst unprofitable and debt ridden companies in the market and see how far they've shot up. This company isn't any different ...more

I couldn't care less about 5i. Who the hell is 5i anyway? In my 30 years as a broker at RBC I'd never heard of them. As far as I'm concerned, their "analysis" is completely inconsequential.

Peter Hodson runs 5i. He used to work for Sprott. I believe he was big in recommending Timminco's stock when they were producing material for solar panels. We all know how badly that investment turned out.

No question that many are grumpy on this BB because of the poor performance of XBC.  But what is this, pick on Peter Hodson week?  You must have been working in the basement at RBC Tamarack because I spent nearly 40 years in the military yet have known and followed Hodson since the late 90s. Have also met him a few times.  As for the second comment, pick any analyst in the world ...more

I totally agree. Peter Hodson is the one analyst who I subscribe to because as you said he does not have a vested interest in the stocks that he talks about. Even when he was with Sprott, I thought he gave honest opinions and when he left them he cited the fact that they had wanted him to push their holdings whether he believed in them or not. He calls them as he sees them.

Ha! That's a good one, but 5i didn't exist when I was in the business and to this day aren't registered. And yes, I've met Peter several times as well, when he worked for Eric Sprott

You are mostly correct on Hodson retiredcf, before his 5i days he was one of canada's top small cap experts and very highly regarded, his funds were almost always at the very top performance wise. I joined 5i soon after he started it and they gave great advice, however, they morfed over the years and turned into nothing more than momentum players and gave absolutely brutal advice and answers ...more
