you are correct. Canada has a tax treaty with most developed countries. Those treaties typically ensure that retirement vehicles such as an RRSP are not subject to withholding tax by other countries

I checked my account and noticed that the withholding tax was neglibile - it is 0.15% of the dividend received . To put it in perspective , $1.5 CAD was held as withholding tax for every $1000

I think in the BofC announcement yesterday there was some guidance that negative rates in Canada are not being considered (still). Negative yields in Canada would all but obliterate the original rate

Does anyone know what's going on with the preferred shares today? Both my Pembina and Brookfield preferred shares went nuts with above average volume. Does the prime rates got upped in Canada?

If more shares get tendered than the offer, than you would only return a proportional number of shares back. Ie: if 25% of shares get tendered, then only 4/5 shares tendered will be bought back. So
