OSLO, Norway, Jan. 19 /CNW/ - Radiant Energy Corporation (TSXV - 'RDT'), developer and marketer of InfraTek, the revolutionary, patented, infrared aircraft deicing system, is pleased to announce that it has opened its latest deicing facility at the Oslo Airport in Norway.
"Radiant is extremely pleased to have secured a foothold in Europe with the Oslo location," said Colin Digout, President of Radiant Energy. "We commend the people at Oslo Airport and our partners, SAS Ground Services for their forward thinking and great assistance in allowing this project to be realized. This will prove to be an excellent showcase for the European aviation industry to review the benefits of infrared deicing."
The facility at the Oslo Airport will be operated by SAS Ground Services Norway AS (SGS Norway) in co-operation with Radiant and the Oslo Airport. The facility will be used on a trial basis for the balance of the winter season. The trial will be used to evaluate economics, effectiveness, and environmental impact. Upon successful results, the facility will be put into permanent use to deice aircraft prior to departure.
Airplanes to be deiced taxi into the specially designed hangar where radiant heat waves melt snow and ice from all surfaces of the aircraft. Existing facilities in the U.S. have shown that the system is economically superior, faster, and uses 70% less glycol than the current method used around the world.
"We want to be able to offer airlines a more effective, economic and environmentally friendly service in the future," said President of SGS Norway, Ola H. Strand.
"Oslo Airport as a modern airport is adapting itself to our customer's innovative thinking. We are happy that this new method reduces chemical run-off, and is therefore a valuable contribution to our taking care of the environment at the airport," said President of Oslo Airport AS, Nic Nilsen.
Radiant is scheduled to open another deicing facility later this winter season at JFK Airport in New York.
The InfraTek Radiant Deicing System, is the only FAA-approved for use, non-glycol based alternative to the conventional pre-flight ground deicing process. InfraTek offers substantial savings to airports and airlines by reducing treatment costs and the environmental impact of glycol. The InfraTek Radiant Energy Deicing System is currently in use at Newark International Airport, and Rhinelander-Oneida County Airport, Wisconsin.
