News Article ID: 10690 26 January 2006 BHP shows interest in Orissa BHP Billiton (BHP) is looking at opportunities to set up aluminium manufacturing facilities in Orissa from mining to metal. BHP has applied for bauxite mining leases in the Karlapat deposits which are located towards the south of Orissa. Sources, at Mumbai said that the Australian mining giant is following a cautious approach of applying for a mining lease and allowing it to progress. The company may also look for a local partner for its aluminium project in Orissa. According to reliable sources, the BHP project will include at least 1Mt of alumina refining capacity and 250kt of metal smelting.
