East ZharkamysThis is a very prospective area, but it will be two or three years before ABG sees significant oil flows, assuming the exploration is a success.

"CNPC combine reports Umit discovery
The Aktobemunaigaz joint venture that operates Kenkiyak and Zhanazhol fields in the Precaspian basin brought Umit field on production in mid-2005.
Umit, on the 3,100 sq km Central block in Aktyubinsk oblast south of Zhanazhol field and west of Kozhasay field, is the first field discovered and brought on line in the province since Saigak oil field 10 years earlier, reported IHS Energy (OGJ Online, Oct. 29, 1999).
The discovery well, Ashisay-1 spudded in October 2004, is understood to have tested oil and gas in a presalt carbonate reservoir. The initial producing rate was 700 b/d of oil.
Aktobemunaigaz, largest oil producer in the Aktobe region, is owned by China National Petroleum Co. 85.15% and Kazmunaigaz 14.85%.
Aktobemunaigaz gave no early estimate of reserves at Umit, but the company’s general director Jiang Chi said that the discovery was “of historical significance, and the company ties its prosperity and future to it,” Interfax reported."
There also is some history in the attempts to explore these fields.

GERMAN COMPANY TO LOOK FOR OIL IN KAZAKHSTAN. The German company
Preussag Energy GmbH is the latest company to sign a deal to explore for oil and gas in Kazakhstan. Kazakh Deputy Minister of Geology Marat Bitimbaev announced the signing of a contract by the joint venture Aktobe Preussag Munai Ltd. to work in the Aktyubinsk hydrocarbon fields in northern Kazakhstan, according to Interfax. The company will prospect an 8,000 square km area for the next six years, investing $110 million in the process. The German company will control 50% of the charter capital with Kazakhstan's holding Tulpar and joint-stock company Aktyubinskneft each controlling 25%. The Kazakh government received a $1 million signing incentive from the company. The Kazakh government had been working in the fields previously but a shortage of finances caused its operation to close down. -- Bruce Pannier, OMRI, Inc.
