Active Control reports continuing progress on MSHA approvals
Monday January 14, 7:30 am ET

TSX-V: ACT

TORONTO, Jan. 14 /CNW/ - Active Control Technology Inc. (TSX-V:ACT - News) today reported that it continues to make good progress with US federal Mine Safety and Health Administration ('MSHA') approvals for ActiveMine(TM), the company's two-way wireless voice communications, tracking and data system.

"We anticipate that ActiveMine will receive its MSHA approvals in ample time to fulfill US federal and state requirements as well as the terms of our current purchase orders and new business proposals," said Steve Barrett, ACT President and CEO. "At the same time, we remain fully engaged in discussions for additional purchases with mine operators in West Virginia and other states."

MSHA approves mining equipment as 'intrinsically safe,' i.e. to not create a spark or thermal ignition of methane or coal dust in coal mines. ACT submitted applications to MSHA last year for all components of its ActiveMine system. The company expects to receive three individual approvals for ActiveMine's tracking tag, telephone and node assembly.

As previously announced, purchase orders for ActiveMine are subject to certain conditions including regulatory approval of the system by MSHA.

ActiveMine's communications, data and tracking system enables monitoring of production, personnel and equipment in all types of surface and underground mining environments, including coal and base metal mines. The system is designed to:

	    - Operate on a 100 percent wireless Wi-Fi network backbone.

- Be less susceptible to water and mechanical damage of all sorts,
including rock fall.

- Use open-standards technology.

- Meet federal MINER Act requirements for wireless systems as
established in MSHA policies.

- Provide four-day intrinsically safe battery back-up.

- Provide a wireless communications and data network above-ground to
extend underground networks.
