The World Needs More Power:EEE Partner Indonesia Ramping Up Coal Production:
Indonesia to export more coal to capitalise on price hikes: ICS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
JAKARTA, Feb 6, 2008 -- Asia In Focus
Indonesia is expected to boost coal exports to 185 million tons this year from 170 million tons in 2007 on strong demand in the world market, the Indonesian Coal Society (ICS) said. High prices that shot up to US$93.7 per ton in late January from around US$51.57 in late 2006, will encourage production and exports, ICS chairman Singgih Widagdo said.
* The recent surge in price came after a shortfall in supply because of floods in Australia and snow storms in China which disrupted processes of production in the two major producers.
* Singgih predicted the price will rise further to hit the level of US$100 per ton in the next three months.
