BEIJING--February 28, 2008--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--According to the State Statistic Bureau of China, the recent snowstorms caused an estimated $15.2 billion in damage to the country. The storms damaged 35,968 transmission lines and 1,731 transformation stations. The State Council recently held a meeting to formulate a fast reconstruction plan, and the State Grid Corporation of China (Beijing) has asked its subsidiaries to restore all key networks and equipment before March 10, 2008. China Southern Power Grid (Beijing) is working to put all 220-kilovolt (kV) and 110 kV grids back online before March 5, 2008. Damaged metal wire towers will be rebuilt with higher design standards to be able to withstand adverse weather conditions.
Experts estimate that China's southern provinces may need up to several million tons of cement to rebuild roads and houses, and along with the shutdown of small-scale cement factories, the price of cement may rise 5% to 7%.
