RE: WHY?I always thought Boeing was integrator with engine IP. Does Boeing manufacturer pumps or buy them from a 3rd party manufacturer?
I noticed a re-forecasting of Boeing PPS in the Globe & Mail today. Decline in seat sales by airline companies (caused by higher hydrocarbon prices) is impacting aircraft sales. Based on your identification of the TATA-Boeing JV and declining commercial aircraft revenue, Boeing is major contender to enter the commercial engine business in other sectors -> automotive. TATA engineering could provide the know how for the automotive sector. It would seem Boeing may fit the same model as previously discussed of GE and United Technologies.
So, what is your opinion on Locheed Martin? Contender or not?
What I failed to mention in the previous post, the GE/United/Boeing would only manufacturer the engines and not the final product. For companies like GM, this would reduce their unionized operating costs. In this situation, Boeing may have a major lead with low cost manufacturer in India.
I still like GE because of their monetary investments in alternative fuel technologies in the automotive industry. They manufacturer products for both military and commercial arenas.
