NP says Diamond North CEO chilled by financing freeze

2008-10-06 08:56 ET - In the News

TheNational Post reports in its Monday edition that with the junior miningsector in disarray, the mood at the Toronto Resource InvestmentConference over the weekend was grim and downcast. The Post's PeterKoven writes the annual gathering of junior miners, letter writers andretail investors is normally an upbeat affair full of outrageouslybullish predictions. However, at this year's show, there was a realization that many of thecompanies on display will not be around next year in their currentform. The credit squeeze has made it impossible for many junior minersto raise money. As a result, the ones that are running low on cash havesimply stopped doing anything. The ones that have cash are being veryprudent with it. Meanwhile, commodity prices are cooling off, hedgefunds are forced to liquidate positions and costs on mining projectsare soaring. The result is that share prices are plummeting asinvestors have no confidence that the juniors will ever be able todevelop their projects. "No one wants to finance anything in thismarket. If you need financing, God help you, it's pretty brutal," saysDiamonds North Resources chief executive officer Mark Kolebaba.
