Typically wedging saves money by using the orignal hole to a certian depth then wedging off in another direction to explore potential anomolies as dictated by the geologists. It's not a very accurate way of exploration drilling as the bit may take off in almost any direction once wedged. I don't see where wedging is really benificial in the exploration phase. However, I can see the benefit of wedging in definition drilling as the bit might have a good chance of defining the strike length of a large vein. I would rather see new holes properly spaced when being drilled in potential anomolies. Wedged holes look like spagetti on a cross section.
I may be a bit of base, (no pun intended) because I am not sure what your reasoning is.
