Neighbor Explores Atocha to start Atkinson (Detour Lake) drilling 2010-04-12 08:19 ET - News Release Mr. A. Salman Jamal reports ATOCHA BEGINS ATKINSON (DETOUR LAKE) DRILL PROGRAM Atocha Resources Inc. will begin the 2010 drill program on the Atkinson (Detour Lake) project, to be carried out by Bradley Brothers Ltd., the week of April 12. A 10-man camp is being set up at Hopper Lake, a distance of about 10 kilometres from the drill sites with contract helicopter transportation to be carried out by Guardian Helicopters. The program will consist of approximately 1,200 metres (4,000 feet) of diamond drilling. The Lipton (Atkinson) claims are being explored for Archean gold and volcanogenic base metal (copper, zinc) deposits. Gold deposits in this area (Detour Lake mine and Casa Beradi) are associated with, or are in part hosted by, sulphide-bearing chemical sedimentary units along major deformation zones which can be traced by electromagnetic, magnetic and IP (induced polarization) geophysical surveys. Exploration on the property is in an early stage where mineralization has been located but the limits of the mineralization have not been defined. Drilling by previous companies is at a wide spacing in the area of mineralization and several targets based on electromagnetic and magnetic surveys, and structural analysis, remain to be tested. "We believe that with additional drilling Atocha will be able to define the limits of this mineralization and focus on areas where relatively high-grade targets have been previously intersected," states Jo Shearer, MSc, PGeo, vice-president exploration for Atocha. The Atkinson project area is located approximately 150 kilometres northeast of Cochrane, Ont., near the Ontario/Quebec border, and is approximately 15 kilometres to the south of the past- producing Detour Lake mine. The property is accessible via Highway 652 and the Detour mine access road to the mine site and southeasterly from the mine site by means of a winter road. The property is also accessible by helicopter with many skilled operators in the area. The project consists of the Lipton claims, where numerous geophysical targets were tested by drilling in 1996, resulting in the discovery of significant gold mineralization of 10.7 grams per tonne over a core length of 9.0 metres. Last drilled in 2006, including higher grade drill results of 13 m of 7.5 g/t and 7.7 m of 14.2 g/t gold, were encountered (NI 43-101 report by Paul R.J. Nicholls, February, 2008). Mr. Shearer is the qualified person as defined by NI 43-101 who supervised the preparation of the technical material of this news release. Atocha is pleased to report the launching of its new corporate website. | | | |
