India eyeing Belaruskali shares

MINSK, 10 August – India would like to participate in the privatization of Belaruskali, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Belarus Ramesh Chander told a press conference in Minsk on August 10, BelTA has learnt.

The ambassador informed that India is among the major importers of Belarus’ potash fertilizers. He emphasized that India is interested in potash fertilizers, as the country’s economy is dominated by agriculture and the country needs fertilizers. “We are interested in deepening cooperation in this field. New cooperation opportunities have opened, when the privatization of Belaruskali was announced. I would like to use this opportunity to officially announce India’s intentions to take part in the process,” Ramesh Chander said.

In his words, First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Vladimir Semashko received an invitation from the Energy Minister of India to take part in an energy conference that will be held in October 2010. The diplomat noted that if Vladimir Semashko comes to India, the sides will discuss a possibility of India’s participation in Belaruskali privatization.

Apart from that, a session of the Belarus-India joint economic cooperation commission will be held in November 2010. The issue might be included in the agenda of the session.
