FOX-IT ARTICLE ON ROUTE 1 MOBIKEYS11-10-2010Working securely on any PC with MobiKEY
Working securely on any PC when away from your base is now possible with the MobiKEY device. On 5 October the Canadian company Route1 began collaborating with Fox-IT to offer this secure teleworking solution in the Netherlands and the rest of Europe. It will enable organisations such as NATO, Defence, the police and financial institutions to use this secure and easy teleworking solution. Within government departments this solution is aimed at the RESTRICTED level.
Information leakage is impossible
By carrying the MobiKEY device the user always has access to his or her desktop back at base. Inserting the MobiKEY in a computer causes the base PC’s desktop to be displayed and work can then be continued immediately. After removing the MobiKEY, none of the user’s information remains on the local PC. This rules out any possibility of an information leak. The product is already being deployed in highly confidential environments. Authorities, Defence and financial institutions are the largest users. Fox-IT has set itself the goal of having the solution accredited by the Dutch government at the RESTRICTED level, thus allowing it to be widely utilised.
Secure hosting
This teleworking solution comprises the secured MobiNET datacenter and the MobiKEY USB stick. Users are identified through two-factor authentication: by the MobiKEY USB stick, which stores a PKI certificate on a smartcard, and a personal password. Access is controlled by the central MobiNET platform. Fox-IT hosts the MobiNET platform in its secured datacenter which has been approved for processing information up to and including the ‘State Secret’ level. Fox-IT’s security and monitoring measures ensure that clients are assured that their teleworking solution is in good hands.
"Fox-IT is a highly trusted party by the Government of the Netherlands for the security of their digital communications," said Tony Busseri, President and Chief Executive Officer, Route1 Inc. "We believe the co-venture agreement with Fox-IT will open significant new opportunities for Route1 in the Netherlands and the rest of Europe."
Modern security
“Securing an organisation’s network used to be a question of protecting access to the network. But this is no longer the case given the rise of mobility. Route1 offers a modern teleworking solution which not only protects the perimeters of the network, but also in fact the digital environments surrounding it,”says Paul Bakker, CTO of Fox Crypto.
