Credentials

CredentialsI am not trying to make a point that experience is not an attribute that can be of assistance in assessing investment potential. But some of the bashers carry it a bit too far.

tantallon on the Agoracom forum is constantly demeaning the potential of LBE as an investment. He can claim experience in investing in mining companies, as he took a haircut on his investment in ISM. And like rocksolid used to claim (maybe tantallon is another rocksolid alias?), tantallon claims to have invested in LBE and taken another loss in it.

So, tantallon appears to feel that his experience in taking a haircut in two mining companies, gives him the credentials to know everything that should be considered about holding an investment in Liberty at this time. He is debating with, and claiming superiority over investors who warned him of the downfalls in ISM. He is also arguing with investors, some of whom had the foresight to buy LBE at distress prices, and are now holding LBE at a favorable cost amount - investors that are profiting in a company where tantallon lost money. So why should tantallon feel that his input is more valuable than that of someone with with good experience. Do his two bad experiences take precedence over those contributors that avoided his poor judgement? I don't think so.

Baseball managers don't select a pinch hitter on the basis that the one who has struck out the most in the past, will be the least likely to strike out next time. The same approach might be taken with the tantallons, doingthejobs, and others who volunteer their investment wisdom. Experience is a factor, but good experience is far more of a factor than bad. tantallon and some of the other LBE bashers have only demonstrated their bad experiences. So far, none of these self professed experienced investors have admitted their bad judgement of the past, so they can't demonstrate that they've learned from it.

While tantallon's past errors don't qualify him as a current expert, his credential are not as tarnished as doingthejob. tantallon has at least admitted to two decisions that indicate his judgement was flawed. doingthejob/aatozz has demonstrated far more than two occurrences of bad judgement, but has yet to admit or answer for any one of them. tantallon has at least shown signs that he can admit to knowing how little he knows - doingthejob/aatozz isn't smart enough to know he's not very smart.
