Globe Article, Timing of Winning BidsA couple of points to ponder here but re-read the article first.
First of all to note is the timing of the bidding. The sources say the process could be over in a few weeks vs. the term months.
This would be roughly then a few days before the Trial is to start in Marshall.
Pure Spec, but is the lack of announcements of settlement tied to the acquisition of these patents?? Definite possibility.
Contrary to the article's claim that the Canadian Government would not intervene in the event of a foreign bid winning out, I believe that they would. They annulled the sale of McDonald Detweiller's space program to the US a couple of years ago and that surpirsed a few people. I believe that the only really serious contender then is RIM, but they have to have a battle plan. Tha plan is to have WIN be their Gladiator--thus the name of the offshoot com;pany that was started by WIN a few weeks ago. WIN would be the junkyard dog, so to speak, to go after patent infringers. they have the knowledge and the track record to do so.
in calculating whether the Feds would step in on a foreing sale or not, ask yourself this question:
"McDonald Detweiler was selling, in the main technology and patent know how. Nortel would be selling the same thing, patents and know how. Both were developed by Canada and in this country. No government would want to be seen as selling intellect on the international market. God knows, the Conservatives absorbed enough abuse when they sold out AVRO 1/2 century ago and despatched their aviation industry to the netherworld, never to emerge with real impact since. All that knowledge at AVRO was dispersed to the 4 corners of the world. Now 50 years later would they dare to repeat the mistake????"
I think the possibility is remote.
Now why would WIN require another 20 million dollars in the latest bought deal announced a couple of weeks ago.
We are dealing with a very high stakes game here. Hang in there all longs. Things are going to get a whole lot exciting in the next few days./
