They could very well try and do a hostile takeover but what they cannot control is who holds the majority of the shares, and if those major holders do not want to sell good luck with the take over. All this will have done is drive up the SP price and tied up a good portion of there cash in papper.

A hostile takeover is not nearly as easy as you may think.
