UAE (Dubai) - Qatar Executive, the corporate jet subsidiary of Qatar Airways, took part for the first time in the 2010 Middle East Business Aviation (MEBA) show in Dubai.
Qatar Executive’s newest jet, the Bombardier Global 5000 was on static display for the three-day show, featuring its high class specification interiors including seating for 13 passengers in a two-cabin configuration, conference tables, in-flight entertainment surround sound system, with multiple video monitors, CD and DVD players, iPod docking stations and a Play Station console. Business travellers will also benefit from satellite communications enabling wireless access to the internet, printer and scanner facilities.
The biennial show is a fixture in the business aviation calendar, bringing aircraft manufacturers, service providers and suppliers to the industry together and features an array of aircraft on display.
Qatar Executive has grown from strength to strength since its launch 18 months ago. Qatar Executive’s Doha-based current fleet of four Bombardier corporate jets consists of one Challenger 300, two Challenger 605s, and the largest and latest, the Global 5000.
The airline announced its order for two Global 5000 Bombardier jets on the opening day of the Farnborough Air Show last July, in a deal worth US $90 million. With the first aircraft now delivered, the second is due to arrive in Doha next year.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker also hinted at possible further acquisitions as the airline continues to take advantage of the Middle East region’s growing corporate jet market.
“We launched Qatar Executive to cater to a growing segment of corporate travellers who are looking for an alternative to the traditional commercial form of air travel,” said Al Baker, adding that the corporate jet division formed part of the airline’s robust growth strategy worldwide.
“At Qatar Airways, we provide corporate customers with a premium service full of convenient and flexible options – from the ease of making a booking to the cuisine on board. We are responding to the strong regional demand to have an increased number of private jets available, and this is a market segment that we are keen to develop since entering this sector 18 months ago.”
Qatar Executive’s corporate jets can operate non-stop to anywhere in Europe, as well as most places in Asia and Africa. In addition, each jet can reach North America with a fuel stop in Europe.
The personalised service for passengers includes the convenience of booking an aircraft in as little as four hours before departure, access to premium lounges, and check-in 10 minutes prior to take off.
The Middle Eastern private jet market is poised for consistent growth with more than 200 aircraft expected to be delivered in the region by 2015, according to an estimate released by the global research and consultancy firm Frost and Sullivan.
Ranked Five Star for service and excellence, Qatar Airways was voted third best airline in the world in 2010 following the annual Skytrax survey of 18 million international passengers. In the survey, the airline was also voted as having the Best Business Class Catering in the world, as well as being honoured as the Best Airline in The Middle East for the fifth consecutive year.
By 2013, Qatar Airways plans to serve 120 key business and leisure destinations worldwide with a modern fleet of 120 aircraft. Today, the airline’s fleet stands at 93 aircraft, flying to 95 destinations across Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, and North & South America |
