Kurdistan Oil Exports increase to 100000 bpd

Kurdistan Region Ministry of Natural Resources said on Thursday that Iraq crude Oil exports from the region’s field rose to 100000 barrels per day in March. The Ministry added that plans are being studied in order to increase the exports to reach 200000 by the end of the current year 2011 and 1 million barrels by 2015.
During a celebration in Irbil organized to discuss the working plan of the Ministry of Natural Resources for the last period and attended by Alsumaria News, Minister of Natural Resources in Kurdistan Government Ashti Hurami said in an address that crude oil exports rose to 100000 barrels per day in March while it was just 80000 barrels in February 2011”. “The region’s government is an effective contributor in Iraq income and an essential partner in Iraq General Budget”.

Europe needs additional pipelines and alternative energy distribution flows. The Kurdish part of Iraq may become alternative partner of Europe.”

The participants in the Brussels meeting also alluded to “attempts by countries like Turkey to monopolize the energy supply for EU”.

Currently, Kurdistan has a capacity of 100,000 bpd and is expected to develop its fields to increase the output to 200,000, according to Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Minister of Natural Resources, Ashti Hawrami.

RWE, a key shareholder in the Nabucco project which is aimed to bring up to 31 billion cubic meters of gas per year to Europe through Turkey, announced it had signed a cooperation deal with the KRG to develop and design its “domestic and export gas transportation infrastructure… creating a route to market for Kurdistan’s major gas reserves.”
