RE: RE: RE: RE: OIl Price Decline - No WayWhat they meant by that was that Japan without nuclear generation would need to import virtually all its energy needs in the form of LNG and oil. Since you cannot suddenly convert to oil or LNG - that is what they meant by it not being an option.
Some years back the Japanese government determined that it was unwise for Japan to be more or less totally reliant on the supply of foreign oil and/or LNG - thus being a hostage to any unwelcome major prices for those commodities.
I believe the nuclear route was a hard sell for the government as the people of Japan - for obvious historical reasons - had a strong aversion to nuclear power plan.
There can be little doubt though, that following recent events the Japanese government will be re evaluating its energy future.
