RE: Conclusion of Trial Orders...Foundry resin seems to be a bit of a niche market, but it's certainly an interesting application that might draw other industry inquiries. Meanwhile the make or break market is going to be engineered wood.
From the LEC Apr 11 release:
Board trials of Lignol's HP-L resin adhesive system were conducted byFPInnovations, a globally respected forest products research institute. In themost recent trial, 20 four-by-eight-foot, seven-16th-inch-thick oriented strandboards made from Aspen were produced by FPInnovations at the Alberta TechFutures facility using Lignol's new HP-L resin adhesive system for the corelayer. This novel resin, which contains renewable components blended withpolymeric methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (pMDI), provides a cost-competitivesolution for OSB producers looking to increase the use of environmentallysustainable inputs in their manufacturing process.
The engineered wood page on Wiki lists this, fwiw:
The types of adhesives used in engineered wood include:
So the problem right now is that the first product tested takes MDI to cure but would have to be priced competitively for the PF market. Cost competitive not with OSB but with "green" OSB.
