As for unconventional resource development, I was involved with Mobil Oil when they developed their extended reach drilling program and problems associated with that. To the degree that they had to go horizontal, we even had the tool joints offset on the drill pipe so that the rotary action would stir up the drilled cuttings in the wellbore so they would not pack off in the long horizontal section, but be steadily agitated so the cuttings could reach the shale shakers at surface. The extended reach program was designed for places like Hibernia for one example, where they could fully produce an area and insulate themselves from the extreme high costs of a second production structure like the one that they now have in place, FWIW
