Having a major mining company as a jv partner, with a controlling position is almost never a desireable scenario - I base this on observations and lessons learned over a considerable time period watching this sector. There's far too many examples where the 'major' ties up a prospective project, drags its feet doing the minimum worked required under the terms of their jv, understating exploration success, delaying the release of said exploration success, etc, etc, ETC. Once a major secures an important project, it's added to inventory for future use.....out of the hands and control of the junior company. The deal Oro Peru inked with Barrick is only one glaring example.

 

I undertstand Ewan's decision to do a deal with the devil on this project, but it truly is a shame that we weren't able to go it alone.
