RE: RE: Arequipa versus GQC

RE: RE: Arequipa versus GQC

Hello romcha,

Oops! You are quite correct.

From bussiness.highbeam.com

"NEW YORK -- Barrick Gold Corp., Toronto, said it has mailed its Canadian $915-million ($669.3-million) takeover bid for Arequipa Resources Ltd., Vancouver, British Columbia, to Arequipa shareholders.

The offer expires at 12:01 a.m. Aug. 20.

Barrick said July 11 that it planned a C$27-a-share ($19.60) offer for Arequipa, conditional on acceptance by 50.1 percent of shareholders (AMM, July 12)."

I checked the exchange rates for 1996 and the conversion rate seemed to be consistent with what ProGeo said in his post: "On the Toronto Stock Exchange, shares of Arequipa surged above Barrick's offer of $27 (Canadian), or $36.94 (United States), closing at $28.60, up $6.60."

Thanks for pointing that out. Either way, it was a surprise for a rate of 1.38. So, the CAN has caught up with the USD during the last several years.
