Sonoro Energy, an oil exploration and development company, announced that it has identified 472 exploration prospects across the Kurdistan Region of Iraq
The company has been exploring the region over the past six months and has concluded that more than half a dozen prospects have sufficient data to be drilled.
Initial internal evaluations by Sonoro showed the prospects were of a significant size, with some comparable to or larger than the North Salah ad Din and Sherqat prospects.
The additional exploration work has confirmed that there is significant resource potential that remains to be identified and exploited, the company said.
Based on estimates, the prospective resources exceed five billion barrels, Sonoro added.
Following the North Salah ad Din and Sherqat programmes, Sonoro Energy is investigating how the current programme may be extended to include drilling additional identified exploration prospects.
