Customer versus Professional

Customer versus Professional

I read Basher Busters post with some interest-" Why shorting killing Venture Market." Surely shorting a stock, any stock, requires delivery of certificates ! Thus,a short requires a " lender " of stock certificates !! The lenders of stock certificates are a few and would certainly engage all of the brokerage houses in one exchange. In addition to these lenders would be the Promotors of particular companies ( ! ) A good question is," Which brokerage houses trade on their own account as professionals and in spite of their clients ? " I would not be surprised to find out that my own banking institution was trading in exactly the same stocks I am buying or selling ( even if I have my own direct trading account which they monitor anyway ).Objectively,I would like to see the ticker report of all trading in all exchanges posted as a Customer trade or a Professional trade in buying or selling - P or C-This would clarify the analysis of stock activity-allowing a customer to judge or guess stochastically " now " and from previous trading a clearer picture of who is is buying or selling a particular equity. From my point of view, computer algorithm trading is Professional trading - and as such, for very good reasons this trading should be marked as P in the ticker report of the trading transaction.Any reader will notice the importance of the immediacy of the marking of the transaction as Professonal (for customer's benefit ) .The Age of the 15 minute wait is over-we need to know now-just as quickly as the Professional traders in the brokerage houses ! Allowing real Customers to read real information in the same time frame as brokerage house traders is both fair and a modern necessity ! Real Customers need to know who is long or short in an equity. We do not need to know short positions one month later !!!! We need to know now as trading happens- with a marking system allowing us to see the short sale by declaration. For so long this information has been denied to Customers . Most of the shorting is done by Professional traders in brokerage houses -take away their secrecy and a different market would prevail . Basically, traders who do not register their stock purchases, leaving them in street form, are inviting professional traders in brokerage houses to use those certificates for delivery on short sales. Register your purchase !
