Broadcaster picks up three key properties
HALIFAX, April 17, 2013 /CNW/ - DHX Media Ltd. (TSX: DHX), a leading independent producer, distributor and licensor of mainly children's entertainment content, has signed licenses with ABC TV Australia for three of its key properties: Ha Ha Hairies season 1, Rastamouseseason 2 and a renewal of Grandpa in my Pocketseason 1.
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Australia'snational public broadcaster, has picked up the exclusive free-to-air rights to all three shows for broadcast later this year.
DHX Media has worldwide television and home entertainment rights and North American licensing rights toTurner Broadcasting-commissioned series Ha Ha Hairiesproduced by Adastra Creative, the team behind hit CBeebies show Grandpa in my Pocket. Ha Ha Hairies, a live-action series with animated elements brings a contemporary makeover to classic silent movie clowning and mime routines to delight young viewers today.
Rastamouse, the animated series based on the critically acclaimed books by Genevieve Webster andMichael De Souza, is already a proven success with fans in Australia and ABC has shown a huge commitment to the property adding a further 26 episodes to its roster. DHX Media represents worldwide television (excluding the UK) and licensing rights to the Rastamouse Company production.
DHX Media also holds worldwide television and licensing rights to Adastra Creative's Grandpa in My Pocket which features live action with special effects and is one of the highest-rating shows on CBeebies in the UK. The show has sold to broadcasters worldwide including Canal+ in France, French-speaking TFO, TVO and Knowledge in Canada, Al Jazeera Children's Channel, Norway's NRK and Sub Juniori in Finland, HOP Israel, RUV Iceland, Okto in Singapore, Greece's MCOM. CBeebies has also acquired Grandpa in My Pocketfor the Latin American and US Hispanic markets as well as Poland,South Africa and Asia.
