RE:RE:Mongolian Autharities will visit London next week
Every Thursday, Prime Minister N.Altankhuyag meets with reporters to answer their
questions. At the beginning of yesterday’s meeting (Aug. 22), Premier N.Altankhuyag gave
brief information about ongoing events and reported the social and economic
indicators of the first half of 2013...
..., reporters clarified some questions as follows:
- How is the matter of the Oyu Tolgoi workers losing their jobs to be resolved?
- Issues regarding freed 61 primary workers are being discussed due to the halt of underground expansions and these people’s situation would be resolved by the company itself. But the 1,700 employees are workers from sub-contractors and assistant companies and if they truly lose their jobs, the Government is able to provide them with work places cooperating with the Ministry of Labor.
- There are many people with bank loans among these 1,700 workers. How will this issue be resolved?
- The Government has the opportunity to provide them with other work. However, we cannot promise salaries as high as Oyu Tolgoi did.
- There are talks that an irregular Parliament session would be called on September 16th. Has the Government finished developing initiations and plans to overcome the economic difficulties? Will there be any additions to the budget?
- We will discuss the bill on the Law on Investment during the irregular session. Conditions to not make changes in the law have been attached, whether it is a domestic or foreign investment company. The aim is to establish a sustainable investment environment. There haven’t been any talks to make any addition to the budget, but if it’s necessary, a budget draft will be submitted to the Parliament.
...
- The underground expansion works of the Oyu Tolgoi project have been stopped and it needs an additional investment. What is the Government’s position on this matter?
- The Government has agreed that additional funding is necessary. Officials are to conduct a working visit to London next week and the two sides will resolve the matter.
