RE:Strategic fit: BP to buy NIKO. BP acquisition of Niko makes perfect sense here, particularly since they can buy at a discount to book value based on 2P reserves. But I would expect BP to wait until impasse with Indian government is resolved.
It's difficult to fathom exactly how mean-spirited - even to the point of being evil - the Indian government's socialist politicians are being. I have never witnessed so much ignorance on the part of any political force. In effect they are sabotaging their own domestic production and forcing India to overpay for gas at International rates.
A buyout just below 2P book is the only upside I see here.
